Hi,
I have two spare spools with various lines for my steelhead reel and I can't figure out how to carry them comfortably. Spools are really bulky and fairly heavy to carry. I think the best thing for me to do would be to buy one of those vests with the attached backpack but money is short at this time. So, I will have to make due with my regular vest for now. I realize I can leave one or both in the car if I'm fishing fairly close by but most of the time I'm walking a long distance.
How do you carry your spare spools and what type of vest do you have?

I got my grandmother to stitch in an extra pocket in the back. The weight of the spools was great because it helped to balance the weight of the gear I carried in the front.
I'd go suck up at the local nursing home, some old lady probably could help you out and if you are charming and clever can probably get some baked goods to boot.

I carry mine in the back of my vest (when I carry and extra spool or two). One tip though, don't lay down on the ground with them spools in the back of your vest, hurts like hell when that handle jabs your spine
Take a look on ebay for a "fanny pack" as well. No one uses them things for anything anymore but they would make a great spool holder on the stream and you can get them for dirt cheap.

Every morning at the mine you could see him arrive he stood 6'6" and weighed 325 kind'a broad at the shoulder and narrow at the hip, and everybody knew ya didn't give no lip ta' big Steve. Nobody seemed ta know where Steve called home he drifted into town and stayed all alone, he didn't say much, he kind'a quiet and shy, and if you spoke at all ya just said hi to big Steve...... Big bad Steve.
